The Overstory, winner of the 2019 Pulitzer Prize in Fiction, is a sweeping, impassioned work of activism and resistance that is also a stunning evocation of?and paean to?the natural world. From the roots to the crown and back to the seeds, Richard Powers’s twelfth novel unfolds in concentric rings of interlocking fables that range from antebellum New York to the late twentieth-century Timber Wars of the Pacific Northwest and beyond. There is a world alongside ours?vast, slow, interconnected, resourceful, magnificently inventive, and almost invisible to us. This is the story of a handful of people who learn how to see that world and who are drawn up into its unfolding catastrophe.

The Phillips Collection invites you to a special tour of Bonnard to Vuillard: The Intimate Poetry of Everyday Life with exhibition curator Elsa Smithgall. The exhibit presents over 60 exquisite, rarely seen works by a leading group of European Post-Impressionist artists who ushered in a new form of artistic expression in the 1890s. Assuming the name "Nabis" (from the Hebrew navi, meaning "prophet"), its members shared a belief in art‘s intimate connection to everyday life.

The tour will be led by Senior Curator Elsa Smithgail who curated the show. Many thanks to Barbara Hall, both Georgetown Village Board Member and on the Board of Trustees of The Phillips Collection, for our access to this special event which she advises is, "A gorgeous exhibition that will have wide appeal."
