Only in America Nobody Dies

Lecture 1: "Only in America Nobody Dies"

On November 21, 2013 Georgetown Village’s  Health Care Advisory Committee successfully hosted the first in a series of monthly health-related lectures entitled “Only In America Nobody Dies “, which was given by Georgetown Village’s own Dr. Nicholas Robert.

In today’s world, modern medicine has developed amazing treatments. This has created an impression that almost any illness can be successfully treated. This expectation is consistent with the American “can do” culture. However this expectation is often unrealistic. Uncomfortable as this may make someone, it is better to navigate through an illness with an honesty about what are achievable goals.

This wonderful lecture reviewed both how we developed our optimistic expectations as well as a road map to deal with a life threatening illness.
